We were delighted to attend the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards on Monday Night at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Shawsbridge.
Belfast Telegraph are media partners for the RUN FOREST RUN series of races organised by BORN2RUN and it was our honour to attend the glittering evening of recognition for NI’s sporting heroes. We were thrilled (if a tad embarrassed) that the video for our Mount Stewart race was played repeatedly during the course of the evening on a massive screen.
The event which is sponsored by Linwoods is now in it’s 21st year. There were several Legends of sport present on the night but the highlight for us was meeting our hero Dame Mary Peters.
It was also a great honour to shake the hand of athlete Michael McKillop who won the award for Sportsperson with a disability.
It was great to have an excuse to dress up and ditch our trainers and running gear for the evening.
We even managed to get our photographs taken with Michael O’Neill who won Coach of the Year and Martin O’Neill who was inducted into the Hall of Fame. The dilemma now is who to support when both teams head to France in the Summer? In the interests of diplomacy Jane will support NI and Carol ROI and who knows, both teams may even meet up for the final!
We also had the great honour to meet Pat Jennings and Gerry Armstrong on what was a fantastic evening’s entertainment.
Belfast Telegraph’s Marketing Manager, Joanne Hayden and Managing Director Richard McClean along with Karen McGarvey are all regular runners at our events. It was lovely to accept their invitation to this wonderful awards ceremony.
