EVENT The Coast Half Marathon & 10K 17 May 2025
Venue: Killough, Co. Down
Half Marathon: 10.00am & 10K RACE: 11.00am
The Inaugural Coast Half Marathon & 10K
Experience the beauty of County Down with the Coast Half Marathon & 10K, a stunning out-and-back race set against the backdrop of the breathtaking Mourne Mountains.
Your journey begins in the charming coastal village of Killough, where runners will set off from the picturesque village green. The course starts on the pretty Main Street before turning right onto a peaceful country road leading toward Rossglass. Here, 10K runners are rewarded with an awe-inspiring view of the Mourne Mountains sweeping down to the sea—a truly unforgettable sight. At this point, 10K runners will turn back, retracing their steps to the finish line.
Instead of turning towards Rossglass, half marathon runners will continue along the stunning coastline, following a route that leads to the iconic St. John’s Point Lighthouse. Along the way, they will pass the historic ruins of an ancient church dating back to 1170. Towering since 1844, St. John’s Point Lighthouse—the tallest onshore lighthouse in Ireland—has guided sailors through the north-eastern Irish Sea for centuries.
After reaching this landmark turning point, runners will make their way back towards Rossglass before joining the scenic main road towards Tyrella. This breathtaking stretch hugs the coastline, offering sweeping views of Minerstown Beach and the majestic Mourne Mountains. Just before Tyrella Beach, runners will make a U-turn and head for home, following the stunning route back to the finish line in Killough village.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or soaking in the spectacular coastal scenery, the Coast Half Marathon & 10K promises an unforgettable race experience.
